Applied Bio-Mechanics

Applied Bio-Mechanics, which is also known as the Hurley Technique, is a gentle light touch therapy that helps the body realign to it’s natural posture.  This modality can help release muscular tension, ease joint pain, improve posture, balance and coordination, calm the nervous system and breath more deeply.

This modality was developed by chiropractor and mechanical engineer Dr. John Hurley in the 1920s and 1930s.  While he saw some patients improve with chiropractic care, he was frustrated with the inconsistent results.  He used his knowledge as an engineer to look at the body like a mechanical engineer would view a building or other structures such as a ship moving through water.  Through this knowledge and study he developed Applied Bio-Mechanics to restore proper alignment and posture to the body.

Because it is so gentle, this is a good therapy to start with for people who might not do well with stronger touch therapies, such as those living with fibromyalgia.  There are no needles, painful injections bruising from deep pressure or forceful thrust.  The only popping or cracking you may experience is from your body realigning to your natural posture.

It’s gentleness shouldn’t been taken to mean that it’s only for those who don’t want or respond well to acupuncture, chiropractic, deep tissue massage, dry needling or physical therapy.  Anyone can receive Applied Bio-Mechanics.
