Light Therapy

Light therapy, also know as photobiomodulation (PBM), is a noninvasive healing modality using photons from invisible and visible color wavelengths of light to promote health, healing and general wellbeing.  Research shows that PBM is useful for pain relief, reducing inflammation, promoting wound healing, promoting collagen production and more.

The East Tennessee Holistic Medicine (ETHM) clinic has both light emitting diodes (LED) and low-level laser light devices that may be used during your treatment sessions.  The most commonly used frequencies are red and near infrared light because that’s where a lot of research has been done.  However, ETHM also has devices that utilize other colors such as yellow, green, blue, cyan and purple.

Light therapy may be used along with heat, acupuncture and Chinese medicine for pain relief.  It’s combined with cosmetic acupuncture to promote skin tone and health with increases in collagen and elastin to reduce fine lines and wrinkles.
